          The City of Caribou, Maine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of City Manager.  Caribou has a population of 7,710, a City Council (seven members)/City Manager form of government, a municipal budget excluding schools of $10.0 million, and 72 full-time employees. The most Northeastern City in the U.S., Caribou is a full-service city and winter and summer recreational area.

          The City Council is seeking an individual with strong budget, investment, and financial management skills; experience in economic and community redevelopment activities; experience in operations analysis, personnel management and labor relations; and experience in public works and solid waste operations. Candidates should also possess excellent written and oral communication skills, progressively responsible supervisory and management experience, and demonstrated leadership ability.  Municipal management experience and a college degree are preferred, but candidates with comparable work experience and education are encouraged to apply. Mechanic

The City of Caribou is seeking applicants for the position of Mechanic in its Public Works Department. Applicants must have the minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade School Degree in Mechanical, Diesel or Automobile maintenance is helpful. Must be physically able to meet the demands of the position and capable of working long hours when required. Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; experience or trade certification in heavy truck operation or similar field; and a minimum of a Class-B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes. Compliance with federally mandated drug screening for CDL holders is required by law.

Nylander Museum of Natural History

The Nylander Museum of Natural History is looking to employ one (1) year long full-time employee and two (2) ten week full-time workers through the VISTA program. Training is provided along with biweekly stipend, and a bonus or educational award at the end of the work term. Must be 18 years old with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to: Creating education and outreach programs such as theme weeks, mini-camps and other activities; fundraising activities (grant writing skills would be helpful); recruitment of volunteers; public relations including newspaper articles, developing calendars and giving tours.

The Museum has a dedicated Board of Trustees who will work with employees to continue to grow the Museum and its mission.

POLICE OFFICER

The City of Caribou is accepting applications for a full time Police Officer.  Applicant must have a high school diploma, 200-hour police course certificate and will be required to pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy prescribed physical aptitude test, oral examinations, physical and psychological examination and criminal background check including a polygraph examination.  Applicant must hold a valid Maine driver’s license and have an excellent driving record.  Any of the following would be a plus: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, Academy Blue Pin or law enforcement experience.

The Caribou Police Department operates on a 12-hour schedule-3 on/3 off and offers competitive wages with excellent health benefits.  Retirement benefit includes 25-year Maine State Retirement with no minimum age. Reserve Officer

The City of Caribou is presently seeking candidates to add to its roster for Reserve Officers. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, hold a valid Maine driver’s license with no adverse driving record, and have passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT test. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed the Maine Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Pre-Service Program. The pay rate for Reserve Officers is $14.00 per hour.
