          The City of Caribou, Maine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of City Manager.  Caribou has a population of 7,710, a City Council (seven members)/City Manager form of government, a municipal budget excluding schools of $10.0 million, and 72 full-time employees. The most Northeastern City in the U.S., Caribou is a full-service city and winter and summer recreational area.

          The City Council is seeking an individual with strong budget, investment, and financial management skills; experience in economic and community redevelopment activities; experience in operations analysis, personnel management and labor relations; and experience in public works and solid waste operations. Candidates should also possess excellent written and oral communication skills, progressively responsible supervisory and management experience, and demonstrated leadership ability.  Municipal management experience and a college degree are preferred, but candidates with comparable work experience and education are encouraged to apply. Part-Time Library Assistant

 

The Caribou Public Library seeks a part-time assistant for 29 hours a week: Monday-Thursday 2pm-7pm, Friday 1-6pm, and Saturday 10-2. Must be detail-oriented, have computer experience and excellent customer service skills.

 

Duties include but are not limited to circulation and library catalog, processing fines/fees, registering new patrons/updating patron records, assisting patrons with faxing, copying, scanning to email, and computer use, assisting patrons with ready-reference and readers’ advisory, and shelving, maintaining, and organizing stack areas. Previous library experience is helpful.

POLICE OFFICER

The City of Caribou is accepting applications for a full time Police Officer.  Applicant must have a high school diploma, 200-hour police course certificate and will be required to pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy prescribed physical aptitude test, oral examinations, physical and psychological examination and criminal background check including a polygraph examination.  Applicant must hold a valid Maine driver’s license and have an excellent driving record.  Any of the following would be a plus: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, Academy Blue Pin or law enforcement experience.

The Caribou Police Department operates on a 12-hour schedule-3 on/3 off and offers competitive wages with excellent health benefits.  Retirement benefit includes 25-year Maine State Retirement with no minimum age. Overtime includes regular overtime and special details, including ATV patrols; Homeland Security patrols; Bureau of Highway Safety-seatbelt, OUI, speed and distracted driving patrols; underage drinking enforcement; and others. Reserve Officer

The City of Caribou is presently seeking candidates to add to its roster for Reserve Officers. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, hold a valid Maine driver’s license with no adverse driving record, and have passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT test. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed the Maine Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Pre-Service Program. The pay rate for Reserve Officers is $14.00 per hour.
