The Caribou Public Works Department maintains 112 miles of city roads and streets, the associated infrastructure, sidewalks, parking lots, the municipal airport and buildings.
The department is well equipped with modern well-maintained equipment, necessary for keeping the roads and streets in good repair, as well as open for traffic during the winter months. With the average annual snowfall of 115 inches, this can be quite a challenge.
The Public Works complex has a modern garage facility including offices and vehicle maintenance bays. A new equipment storage building (140' x 60'), a sand storage dome (110' in diameter), a salt storage building, a 12,000 gallon storage and dispensing facility for liquid de-icers, a large area for stock piles of gravel and other construction material as well as screening capability. A fuel island, that provides fuel for all the City's departments 24 hours a day.
A total of 20 employees including administration and mechanics, make up a talented, professional department.
