September 1, 2020 @ 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm

For Immediate Release: August 26, 2020

Porvair and the City of Caribou Join Forces for Profitable Public/Private Partnership, United States Senator Susan Collins to Attend Ribbon Cutting

Caribou, Maine The City of Caribou is excited to announce the completion of facility upgrades at Porvair Filtration, an Armco Avenue establishment that specializes in the sintering of metal powder of stainless steel, bronze and exotic alloys into discs, washers, cups, and tubes. The $360,000 facility and equipment improvements were made possible through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG); a federal program open to states, cities, and counties to develop viable communities and expand economic opportunities. As a result of the grant award, Porvair Filtration will be able to add five (5) new manufacturing and engineering positions for Aroostook County residents.

“This was a true team effort,” said David Mika, the General Manager at the Caribou facility. “We needed to make improvements and Caribou staff realized the positive impacts it would have on the city and future business growth. Leadership on both sides came together to make it happen.”

Dennis Marker, City of Caribou City Manager added, “It’s important to see our local businesses grow and flourish. It creates jobs, enhances our community and demonstrates strength through collaboration.”

United States Senator Susan Collins, a Caribou native, will join City of Caribou and Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce representatives for a ribbon cutting and tour of the upgraded facility on September 1, 2020 at 2:30pm. Members of the public are invited to attend the ribbon cutting. Please practice social distancing and wear a mask.
