Riverfront Power Plants Project – City of Caribou, Maine

The City of Caribou was award a FY23 EPA Brownfields Grant for the Diesel Plant. Status as of 1/1/2024: As soon as the EPA CERCLA action is complete and the contractor has demobilized from the site, a request for proposal (RFP) meeting EPA guidelines will be posted on the City’s website’s RFP page located at cariboumaine.org/rfps.

The City of Caribou has applied for a FY25 Brownfields Cleanup Grant for the Steam Plant. Grant awards should be announced in May 2025. Keep checking this page for more updates.

After the City of Caribou had several environmental assessments done at the power plants site, the EPA came in and made the determination that an emergency action at the Steam Plant was warranted. This commenced in August 2025. Status as of 1/1/2024: The contractor will demobilize in mid-January 2025. An updated fact sheet will be prepared. A contractor will prepare a plan for the next phase needed at the Steam Plant (the City has already applied for a cleanup grant). Keep checking this page for more updates.
